What to Expect

Start your day with hotel or cruise ship pick-up: You have the option to choose a start time of 7am or 8am. Travel to the West Bank of the Nile in an air-conditioned car, where the first stop of the day is the Valley of the Kings. Explore the sprawling desert site, and make time to visit a small group of tombs with your guide. We continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut, a large complex built by Queen Hatshepsut, who ruled the kingdom in the 15th century BC, and stop at the foot of the giant Colossi of Memnon, which guard the funerary temple of Amenhotep III. Cross the Nile River to the East Bank, where you can refuel for an afternoon of sightseeing with a buffet lunch at a local restaurant. After the meal, spend the afternoon at Karnak Temple, a maze-like complex of temples, columns and chapels guarded by a majestic double row of sphinxes that once extended 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to Luxor Temple. The day’s final stop is Luxor Temple, where recent restoration work has revealed brightly colored paintings bringing the ancient world to life. This 9-hour tour ends with transfer to your hotel or cruise ship at 4pm or 5pm, depending on start time.
